1. Banaue town: a road to the door
Banaue town is the only place on the route where a vehicle drops you at your door. Beds here run from town homestays to the government-run Banaue Hotel and Youth Hostel: 81 rooms on one of the highest points overlooking the terraces, managed by the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, with a restaurant, a bar and an outdoor pool.
Three trips sleep here. The private three-day tour spends both nights in Banaue, the Escape books two nights in a Banaue homestay, and the private tour for up to six starts with a night in a town homestay. Set beside every other banaue rice terraces tour package, the town-based trips have the easiest starts: a vehicle at the door, and the roadside viewpoint without a descent.
2. Batad village: waking up inside the amphitheatre
No road reaches Batad village, and no motorised vehicle runs inside it. Jeepneys and tricycles cover the 12 kilometres from Banaue to the saddle in about 45 minutes, and from there it is on foot: the walk down from the saddle takes about 45 minutes, and the climb back about an hour. A night in the village puts you in the bowl at first light.
Batad is one of the five clusters inscribed on the World Heritage list as the Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras in 1995. The famous terraces at the roadside viewpoint above Banaue town are not part of that inscription.
Three trips put you in Batad for the night. The two-day cultural immersion trip sleeps in a Batad homestay. 3. Cambulo: the trekkers’ village
Cambulo is where the village-to-village treks spend their night. It is reached on foot and nothing else, and the terrace clusters shows where it sits beside Pula. Day one on these trips is four to five hours on terrace walls to Pula and on to Cambulo, so the bed is earned.
The evening is different on each of the trekking tours that stop there:

- Guided trek (3 days). Traditional singing and dancing after dinner, and the lowest fare of any Banaue trip.

4. Sagada, on the four-day trips
Three four-day trips add Mountain Province to Ifugao, and their nights go between the two. The four-day Sagada and Banaue tour from Manila books two nights’ hostel accommodation, one in Sagada and one in Batad, with breakfast daily. The night you spend on the bus
Four trips count a night on the road. The hiking adventure takes the night bus from Manila at 9:00pm, the weekend hiking tour leaves from Ohayami Trans in Sampaloc, the Sagada and Banaue tour from Coda Lines in Cubao, and the cultural immersion trip also starts overnight.
Count the nights in a bed, not the days in the title. The weekend hiking tour runs four days and includes one night in a village inn; the other two nights are on the bus.

Are Banaue homestays accredited?
In 2018 the Ifugao provincial government started a homestay drive, asking residents to take visitors into their homes where no inns existed. Homeowners who convert their houses must follow ASEAN guidelines and train for accreditation with the Department of Tourism.
